Welcome! My name is Menemsha and I am a psychoanalytic psychotherapist.

Feeling uninspired by your future? Wish you spent less time thinking and more time living? Tired of doing things you don't enjoy to please others? You’re in the right place!

I work with people young and old who want to improve their relationships and enrich their quality of life. I am passionate about helping people strengthen and transform existing relationships, as well as build resilient new ones at any stage in life. I am knowledgeable and experienced with alternative family planning and have a special interest in helping nontraditional families thrive. Common themes in my practice include low self-esteem, anxiety, depression, obsessional thinking, communication, life transitions, chronic illness, learning disabilities, mood disorders, and stress from sexism, racism, ableism and LGBTQIA2S+ discrimination.

As a psychoanalyst, my style is warm, relational, and laid-back. My clinical areas of focus include complex and developmental trauma, gender and sexuality, interracial relationships, interpartner violence, nontraditional partnership, communication, codependency, and dating. I am LGBTQIA2S+ knowledgeable and affirming and I enjoy helping all people build safe and loving relationships.

BACKGROUND

I received my graduate degree in clinical social work from CUNY Hunter College in 2020 and have since worked as a therapist in both public and private settings. Prior to becoming a social worker, I completed a master’s degree in political theory from The CUNY Graduate Center, where my research centered on state violence and political repression. I have also worked as a preschool teacher in Brooklyn, New York, educating children on difference, inclusivity, and community care.

I am enrolled as a 4th year candidate at the Institute for Contemporary Psychotherapy, where I am training in relational psychoanalysis. I also have basic training in EMDR, which I use virtually to treat a wide variety of traumas, including vehicle accidents and sexual assault. I work remotely at my own private practice based in New York, where I live, and I am also licensed to practice in the state of Virginia.
